Week 45 in the war on cancer. A bit delayed, but here is the update.
Dyanne has had some side effects from the injections she got last week. Headache a couple of days, vomitting once, a bit of stomach issues and tired on some days. She is better now, but still a bit tired.
Thanks to those of you who sent email to minister of health Bent Høie. I really hope that those in power wake up and realize how bad the current system is for “terminally ill” cancer patients.
I sent an email myself to the ministry of health. In the email, I summarize what I believe are the main problems with the way Norway’s current health deal with “terminally ill” patients. And I have some suggestions as to what can be done to improve the situation. It is in Norwegian, and it is rather long, but in case you are interested, you can read it here: http://alunglife.com/email-to-the-norwegian-ministry-of-health/
I have been doing a bit of cancer moonshotting this week. I have suggested two research ideas to the US Vice President Joe Biden’s “cancer moonthot initiative”. If you are interested, here they are:
1. Using the cheap anti-fungal medicine itraconazole in combination with chemotherapy to improve survival in lung cancer: cancerresearchideas.cancer.gov/a/dtd/Itraconazole-and-pemetrexed-for-treatment-of-NSCLC/185023-39827
2. A massive (moonshot!) trial where personalized cancer vaccines based on neoantigens are tested out: https://cancerresearchideas.cancer.gov/a/dtd/Moon-trial-384-400-patients-treated-with-personalized-vaccines/185307-39827
I also found out that Norway has a system where anyone can suggest new “methods” (treatment, diagnostics, etc) to be adapted by the health care system. I used this system (www.nyemetoder.no) to propose that itraconazole is adapted as a treatment option for lung cancer patients. In case you are interested in reading more about this, here is the completed form I sent them: https://www.dropbox.com/s/oksox1uxohc4zuk/Forslagsskjema%20til%20nasjonale%20metodevurderinger%20-%20itrakonazol%20kombinert%20med%20pemetreksed%20i%20behandling%20av%20NSCLC.pdf?dl=0
Dyanne is going to Frankfurt again this week for a new vaccine injection. Leaving on Wednesday and coming back on Thursday. If anyone wants to keep Naomi and me company on Wednesday or Thursday, do let me know.
