Week 137: Starting to fight progression

Written by Lars Haakon Soraas

Week 137 in the war on lung cancer is over. Here are highlights:

  • After discussion with various doctors, we have landed on the following strategy to battle the growing cancer in Dyanne’s lungs: try to ablate the 2-3 growing lesions and, simultaneously, beef up the immunotherapy treatment Dyanne is on.
  • When it comes to the ablation part, we are working on this, but nothing is set in stone yet. Hopefully soon this will be sorted out.
  • As for beefing up the immunotherapy, Dyanne got an infusion of low dose ipilimumab (15 mg) in Wednesday this week. The dose is very low compared to the dose normally given of this drug. The reason is that we are afraid of side effects, which Dyanne got some of last time she got this drug (back in September last year). And Dyanne have gotten some side effects already: stomach issues and perhaps also fatigue (although the cause of the fatigue is uncertain).
  • Dyanne has been quite fatigued the last week, and, following the ipilimumab, she has also had some stomach issues. Hopefully both of these issues will resolve soon.

Only a brief update today. Hope everyone has had a good weekend!
